Dispatch demand response events to Renew Home's residential thermostat VPP

Note

Production Ready This integration is live and available for utilities and aggregators running Renew Home ESC programs.

Overview#

Renew Home operates a virtual power plant (VPP) built on residential thermostats. Utilities and aggregators enroll customers into Renew Home's Energy Shift Capacity (ESC) program, which allows dispatching thermostat setpoint adjustments across that population during peak grid stress periods — reducing demand without requiring customers to take any action.

The Texture integration lets you trigger and manage ESC demand response events directly from Texture, alongside your other DER programs. You configure your Renew Home program in Texture once; after that, dispatching an event is the same workflow you use for any other program — no separate login to Renew Home's platform required.

What You Can Do#

  • Dispatch events — Send a demand response event to your Renew Home ESC program; enrolled thermostats shift setpoints automatically across the enrolled population
  • Cancel events — Cancel a live event before or during its active window if grid conditions change
  • Forecast before dispatching — Preview the expected load impact of an event before publishing it, so you can validate it meets your grid service obligation
  • Track event status — Monitor events through their full lifecycle in the Texture Dashboard

Prerequisites#

Before enabling this integration, you need:

  • A Renew Home ESC program — Your organization must already be enrolled as a Renew Home partner with an active ESC program. Contact Renew Home if you are not yet a partner.
  • Your Renew Home program ID — The external identifier for your ESC program within Renew Home's platform. Texture uses this to scope all dispatches to your program.

Texture manages the API credentials for the Renew Home ESC API on your behalf — you do not need to supply or rotate keys yourself.

Getting Started#

Once you have an active Renew Home ESC program and your program ID, contact us. Texture will configure the integration for your workspace, and you can begin dispatching events from the Texture Dashboard or via the API.
