Signals
Weather and carbon emissions data that Texture adds to your sites and batteries
Signals are context Texture adds to your energy data without any setup: current weather for your sites, and carbon emissions for battery charging.
Available signals#
| Signal | Source | What you get | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current weather | National Weather Service, OpenWeather, or Weatherbit | Temperature, humidity, dew point, conditions, cloud cover, sunrise, and sunset | Any site with coordinates |
| Charging emissions | Marginal CO2 rates from WattTime, updated every 5 minutes | Pounds of CO2 from battery charging, per time period | Batteries in grid regions WattTime covers |
Texture matches each site to weather and to a WattTime grid region by its coordinates.
Weather is current conditions only. Texture doesn't provide weather history or forecasts.
Data usage terms
WattTime's partnership terms don't allow Texture to share raw marginal emissions rates. Instead, Texture calculates emissions by combining WattTime rates with your battery charging data.
Where to find signal data#
| Where | What's there |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Current weather on a site's page. Charging emissions on a battery's device page and in its panel in Explore. |
| Sites API | Current weather with GET /v1/sites/{id}?include=weather |
| Metrics API | Charging emissions with GET /v1/metrics/emissions. See Metrics. |
| Webhooks | Turn on includeWeather on a webhook destination to attach current weather to events that include a site. See Webhooks. |
Texture doesn't send events when signal data changes.
Next steps#
- Read emissions over time with the Metrics API.
- Look up a site's weather through the API reference.
